Saturday Morning Sunrise

I was making coffee at 5:00 AM this morning and looked out my kitchen window.  I thought that the dark cloud with the sun on the edge looked really pretty.  I didn’t think I could capture it, but the above photo pretty much looks like what I saw and my cell phone takes pretty good pictures.

Then looking out my living room window, I could see the sun rising up which was pretty, but I love the way the cloud form looked.  It just caught my eye the way the cloud formation looked like little balls of cotton.  It just looked pretty and only lasted a few minutes.

I saw the above fashion find that anyone could wear.

I like local blueberries and they can be expensive.  But they were $3.75 for a good size container of blueberries at Pete’s farm stand in New Hampshire which is always a fun place to visit.  I get my eggs at the local Farmers Market for $3.00, so I didn’t buy eggs at Pete’s.

Another frugal find I have is I save quite a bit on buying gas in New Hampshire because Vermont has a ten cent per gallon sales tax.  New Hampshire is really much more economical to live in then Vermont.  If I buy anything on line, also it gets taxed and really adds up.  New Hampshire does not tax anything bought on line like Amazon, QVC and HSN.  I’m seriously thinking of moving to New Hampshire.  Will have to change my blog to a new name.

I like flavored popcorn sometimes and the above lemon Parmesan flavor sounded good to me.  All they did was squeeze some lemon in with the melted butter and then sprinkle grated Parmesan over the popcorn.  I have all kinds of flavored popcorn recipes on my pinterest popcorn board.

A household tip that I found to clean the oven is as follows:  Just fill a deep heatproof pan with water, put it on the oven rack, and warm until the steam softens baked-on grease.  After the oven cools, use a paste of equal parts salt, baking soda and vinegar as a scrub.

I always like going to the lake and can’t even imagine how much fun the above lake house must be.  When I was a kid, my Dad always had friends where he worked that rented out their camps and we would enjoy their camp on the lake for a week when my Dad had a vacation.  Soooo fun.  We didn’t have a boat but I remember neighbors that had boats and they had us water skiing with them.

I remember one camp that had a screened in porch and on a rainy day my Mom made corn chowder for my brother and I plus a bunch of our friends to enjoy that chowder on that porch overlooking the lake.  So fun memories.

An inspiration message that I found is:  “May your day be filled with love for yourself and others.”

Summer Days

Went for a walk up to the dam early this morning before it got too hot.  Beautiful morning.  I love the view of Mt Ascutney and it’s so clean up there.

Mt Ascutney is also beautiful viewing from the Connecticut River.  It’s just a beautiful mountain.  I’ve always loved that mountain from the time I was a little kid and my best friend had a huge window in their living room with a beautiful, breath taking view of Mt Ascutney.

I love the above bush that my Mom and my Gram used to call a Snowball bush.   It is just so beautiful for landscaping.

I also like old fashion Hollyhocks.  So pretty.

I love a summer picnic.  One of the pleasures of summer.  I can only imagine a picnic in a field of lavendar.   So French.  Love the baguette, cheese, macarons and berries.

So fun to imagine French style picnics.

A simple white blouse is a classic and never goes out of style.  A staple for a summer wardrobe.  Plus it goes with everything and can be dressed up or dressed down.

I love the idea of freezer meals that you can just throw into a crockpot in the morning with the prep work all done and then have a nice supper and not even have to heat up the stove or oven.  I pinned the ideas on my crockpot recipes board on my Pinterest.  I love that little machine that takes all the air out of the special bag and then seals it.  Best investment I ever made.

The above is the Hapgood General Store near Hapgood Pond in Peru, Vermont.

One of these mornings, I would like to run over to Hapgood and pick up one of their breakfast sandwiches.  Yum!

Above is the owners of the Hapgood General Store and Paul McCarthy of the Beetles stopped in there on his way back from skiing at Bromley one time.  McCarthy’s people called ahead and the store had to be empty for him to be able to stop in there.  So cool!  That tells you how good the food is there for a famous Beetle hearing of the place and wanting to stop there.

For a frugal find, I got the above top to wear bike riding, walking and exercise.  I absolutely love it.  I had a coupon for $10.00 that I got for being one of the first 50 at the door for the store sale.  Then I had a 20% off coupon and the top was marked down from $34.00 to $19.00.  So they practically gave it to me.  Love it!  ❤  I have a pair of black leggings that go perfectly with that top that I got at T J Max and the leggings are designer but at a T J Max price.  I wore the two together yesterday on my walk and you would never know how little I paid for them.

Plus I got a free shopping bag that they gave away to the first 50 at that sale.  It pays to read those sale circulars that come in the mail in my opinion.

For an inspiration message I like is: “Balance is not something you find, it’s something you create”.

I like Prevention Guide magazine and one household tip that I found was that pizza boxes and a lot of fast food containers are coated with nonstick chemicals to keep grease from leaching through.  These nonstick chemicals (called PFCs) have been linked to thyroid disease, cancer, infertility, birth defects and weakened immune systems.  Another reason to cook more food at home.

I love those zoodles that you can make with that little zoodle machine.  I put a ton of recipes for zoodles on my Pinterest zoodle board.  I found a really good OXO zoodle machine at T J Max for an unbelievable low price.  I just couldn’t resist it.  Especially with fresh garden zucchini so available at the farm stands at a really good price.

I really hate to run my air conditioners because they really run up the electric bill.  But on days like today I just have to turn on the air.

And that’s my thoughts for today, the middle of summer.

Fun Morning

Nothing like getting up early and going for a nice walk on the walking trail.  I made a pot of coffee and put some in a travel mug to take with me.  Then I put the rest in the fridge for ice coffee for later.  Beautiful morning and not hot yet.

I walked down to the waterfall and there was a Great Blue Heron fishing on the rocks below the falls.  He was only there briefly and all of a sudden up the river he flew with his long legs flying out behind him.  So majestic.

I had a 2 mile walk and then stopped at the local farm stand and got some beautiful greens and some summer squash.

Then I went to the local grocery store and picked up some coconut yogurt.

I got home and took a nice hot shower and finished the shower with the shower on rain cycle with very, very cool water.  Got into some cool comfortable pedal pushers and nice T-shirt.

Then I made myself a smoothie that had coconut milk, dark chocolate powder, frozen banana, coconut yogurt and pumpkin seeds.  It was super good.

I like my glass that says “Embrace messy hair and sweatpants”.  Actually it’s a wine glass, but I like it for smoothies.

I put my hair up in a messy bun and turned on the air conditioner because it is very humid here today.

Then I made some ice coffee in a mason jar and it was better then I usually buy as I used dark roast coffee which I love and put lots of ice and just the right amount of cream the way I like it and shook it up.  Fun to have while checking my Email and working on my blog.

I like an inspiration message that Sheryl Crow has.  It says, “It’s not having what you want, it’s loving what you have.”

Tea Ideas

I like old fashioned tea ideas.  There is a book called “Tea with Jane Austin” by Pen
Vogler.  I love the idea of a Sponge cake and that recipe is in that book.

I found a Victorian Sponge Cake recipe on All Recipes website.  It sounded easy and also perfect for an afternoon tea.

I like the idea of little tea sandwiches and the above recipe is on my tea ideas in my Pinterest.

A real easy and traditional tea sandwich is just sliced cucumbers and cream cheese.

Then add “Tomato Twiddle” Tea Party sandwiches.  Sounds perfect for a tea party and is what I would choose.  I put the recipe on my tea ideas board on my pinterest.  The filling is just a mixture of boiled tomatoes, cheddar and onions mixed in a food processor.

Also traditional finger sandwich fillings are chicken salad, egg salad or tuna salad and celery.

I would have some Madeleines.  They are easy to make with the special Madeleine pan.  There is also a chocolate version and I have several recipes on my Pinterest.

I think that it would be fun to dress up and have a fun tea party.

Cute invitation idea comes complete with a template to make it.  I saved the idea on my tea ideas on my Pinterest.

I found a recipe for Jumbles which is in the book “Tea with Jane Austen” that I think would be fun to have.  The recipe I found is on my Tea Ideas board on my Pinterest.

I like the hat idea for a cookie, also, but a little time consuming to use.

I love how they have 3 tiers and high tea ideas.

They usually have scones for tea and I think the above Cheddar Dill Scones sound good.  I put that recipe on my tea ideas board on my Pinterest.

The above Shelly Tea Cup called Cambridge Wildflower reminds me of a pattern that my Mom had.

How fun to have an outdoor tea party!

Lenox tea

I like the Lenox Butterfly Meadow tea set.

Also Royal Albert patterns are so pretty.

I think that tea sets are just elegant.

French Macarons are always a fun idea for a tea party.

A British tradition for tea is scones with clotted cream and raspberry jam.

Mostly high tea consists of tea, scones, finger sandwiches and sweets.  Sounds like fun to me.  Love it.  ❤

Inspirations and Fun Stuff

Happy Monday!  Don’t forget to let in the inspiration!

le creuset

Le Creuset has a new color in their cookware called “teal”.  Love it!

Staub has a new mini-coquette and they have a sweepstakes for a chance to win one.  I shared the link to the sweepstakes on my facebook.  That’s a heart on the handle.

grilled salmon

One of my facebook friends is in France and she made the above grilled salmon.  It’s just salmon, olive oil, salt and pepper.  She grilled the salmon for 4 minutes on each side on a hot grill.  Yum!  And then she tossed a few chunks of lemon and cooked until golden and juicy to serve with the grilled fish.

provence grill

What a beautiful grill her husband’s parents have in Provence.  The background tile just looks so French.  Love it.

I love flowers from a flower garden.  I happened upon the above bouquet at a farm stand.  It just makes me smile.  ❤

A nice sounding summer muffin is the above Lemon Raspberry Muffin.  I put the recipe on my muffins board on my pinterest.

One of my favorite fashion bloggers, Jolynn Shane had the above outfit to wear to go to the Farmers Market.  I like the white T-shirt and scarf idea.  Also the rolled up jeans with sandals.

When I was a kid, we used to take a picnic and go to the above Hapgood Pond for the day. There is a walking trail that goes around the whole area and Vermont wildflowers are pointed out with cute little signs.  Fun place to go.

Beautiful area and I would like to spend a day there sometime this summer.

I love the farm fresh eggs from our local Farmers Market.

I made a Frittata with the eggs.  I put sauteed onions, mushrooms and Vermont Cheddar in the Frittata and just put it under the broiler for a few minutes.  Then I made a garden salad with assorted greens including kale, swiss chard and several baby lettuces that all came together in a package from the local farm stand.  I just added sliced garden radishes, baby bella sliced mushrooms and I made my own vinaigrette with cider vinegar, Dijon, chopped garlic, thyme and California Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  To top it off, I had a glass of ice cold Sauvignon Blanc.  Just plain fun lunch.

I love the OXO container that keeps greens really fresh for days.  I got mine with a gift certificate from Kohls.  The greens that I got at the farm stand also had a couple of garden fresh radishes in the package.

I love house plants and especially African Violets.  Out of the clear blue sky they will blossom.

inas garden

If I had the land and money, I would make a garden like the Barefoot Contessa’s.  Because she has traveled to France and all over Europe, she picked up awesome ideas on her gardening.  She also has a secret garden that has a twisting garden path that she has special summer outside dinners with little lanterns all along the path and around the outdoor table.

cottage 2

I would love a little cottage like the above.

cottage 9

Love the idea of an outdoor garden area with a brick pathway and table.

And that’s my thoughts for this Monday.

I went shopping today and found some great deals.  First of all, I got some local strawberries at a Farm Stand near me and they were so sweet and delicious.  The first local strawberries of the season that I was able to get.  Then I got organic walnuts and organic pumpkin seeds at the Food Co-op near me.   You can buy them in bulk from bins that they have and I just get a medium bag of them.   I like the pumpkin seeds to add to one of my favorite banana, yogurt, chocolate, almond milk smoothie.  I love putting the organic nuts in the fancy Pioneer Woman jars that I have for my pantry.  I also have labels for the jars that are really neat and I will have fun with that.

I also got some garden fresh veggies that were picked from a garden this morning at the same place that I got the strawberries.  I got zucchini, summer squash, patty pan squash and baby cucumbers.

I got a lettuce bag at that Farm Stand the other day that had 4 kinds of baby lettuce, kale, swiss chard and radishes in it.  I made a couple of salads with the greens for two days and today I made a seafood salad to put on top of the greens.  Love it.  I love to make my own dressing and shaking it up in a little mason jar.

I went grocery shopping and the above plant caught my eye.  I thought that it was perfect to have for over the 4th of July weekend.

Then on my way home I came upon a farm that had plants for sale at the end of their driveway.  All kinds of plants for only $2.00 each.  I could not resist the above Marigold plant.   It looks really nice in one of my favorite planter pots.

I stored the strawberries in an air tight mason jar and put them in the fridge.  I read one time the this keeps the berries fresh longer.  And I have tried it and it really works.

Then gas costs $2.27 a gallon near me.  The town near here in NH where I get my groceries, it was $2.19 a gallon and if you pay cash, it’s $.05 less.  So It cost me only $2.14 a gallon and $10.00 filled up the tank of my Prius.   Love it. ❤

A very fun Saturday.

My daughter in law had a chicken roasting in her slow cooker the other day and what a neat idea.  The aroma filled the kitchen and I am definitely going to try making a slow cooker chicken.  I put the above recipe on my Pinterest Crockpot board.  The recipe has a rub that includes smoked paprika and cumin.  My daughter in law put potatoes in the bottom of the crockpot to cook along with the chicken.

I found a couple of recipes and am going to experiment and see if I can find what works with my slow cooker.

Bastille Day is July 14th in France.  I like to collect the French recipes that are on Bastille Day posts on Pinterest.

Bastille Day fireworks in Paris.  So awesome.

Love the way the Jets made the French flag with the red, white and blue.

july outfit

One of my favorite fashion bloggers suggested the above top to wear on the 4th of July.  I like that style.

what-to-wear-for-4th-of-july-768x1075 (1)

I like the above idea also to wear on the 4th from my favorite fashion blogger.  I like the red T-shirt and the two necklaces idea.  The sandals look awesome with the rolled up jeans.  The sandals are by Tory Birch and cost $195.00.  A little much for me.  But I found a really cute pair of sandals that cost $79.00 and I had a 40% off coupon at a local department store.  They are comfortable and I just needed a new pair of sandals.

Ina's salad

I got the most delightful greens at a local farm stand today.  There was kale, swiss chard, 3 kinds of baby lettuce and radishes all picked from the garden this morning.   They had it all combined in a huge package for only $2.99.  I love it.  I also got some summer squash that was just picked and it was delicious.  Tomorrow, I am going to get some farm fresh eggs from the Farmers Market that they have on Saturdays here in town.  Also some local strawberries.

It rained here today and south of us they had awful thunderstorms.  Lightening struck within a mile of where I live on the last thunderstorm that went through a few days ago.  Glad this recent storm only had rain for here.  I don’t mind a gentle rain, but the thunderstorms are not my favorite weather.

It’s going to be a beautiful day on the 4th from what the weather predicted on the news tonight.  Yay!

Hope you all have a nice July.
